Hello! I am Carrie Beach, a middle school STEAM teacher and aspiring UX designer.  I am currently participating in the Google UX Design certification program.  I have created this website to eventually become my portfolio.  I am going to publish the site as I work on it so that I can share my progress and hold myself accountable for getting it done.

I have spent the last nine years teaching the design process in all of my classes.  I feel that this has given me a head start on moving into UX design.  I have helped hundreds of middle schoolers learn the importance of research, brainstorming, and ideating before they just build something.  If you've never worked with kids, that is quite an accomplishment since they aren't fans of making a plan.  I also have used the design process to improve my lessons from year to year.  I use student feedback and observations to iterate the lessons I have created to make them better.  I plan to create a case study for one of these lessons as an artifact for my portfolio.

Besides teaching and learning UX design, I also am a maker of things.  I do a variety of crafts and work at a local makerspace, Mixxer Community Makerspace helping with their youth and family programming.  I enjoy spending my free time traveling with my family, snuggling with our cats, and watching the Kansas City Chiefs.
